Race Review

Wenatchee Season Finale

10/4/2005    By: Brandon Hamilton

Here is the Race Review for Saturday, September 24th from the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval.

The Top 5 in Qualifying were Bryan Grant at 14.668, Mike Easley at 14.719, Brad Borton at 14.755, Steve Blankenship at 14.819, and Greg Hoban at 14.905. It was a very tough and close field as 45 cars were in attendance for Championship night.

Next up we had the heat Races for 16 Qualifiers. In Heat number 1 it was Kyle Cooley taking the win. Kyle was followed by Shannon Bull, Darren Goetz, #81 (sorry no name was ever announced), Bill Patty, Brad Borton, Bryan Grant, and Kevin Carver.

In Heat number 2 it was Dave Lund taking the win. Dave was followed by Sam Boyce, Steve Blankenship, Mike Press, #17, Cory Mack, Jason Ogle and Greg Hoban.

Next we had the C-Main. The action started early as Mitch Kleyn hit the Frontstrech wall but he was able to continue although I believe the yellow was thrown. During the yellow Dirk Kruiswyk dropped from his second starting position to the back of the pack.

On Lap 6 Greg Hector spun on the backstretch. For the remaining laps in the race the real battle was between Gary Flammang, Carl Davidson, and Dirk Kruiswyk. These three guys raced nose to tail for probably 10 laps. They bumped each other just about every time they went into the corners but they always let the other driver gather it up.

It was probably the best racing I saw all weekend. At the Checkered Flag it was Randy Laswell taking the win. Randy was followed by Gary Flammang, Dirk Kruiswyk, Carl Davidson, Josh Ingram and Elvin Bricefield. The transfers were Laswell, Flammang, Kruiswyk, and Ingram.

Next up was the B-Main. The action started right away when coming out of Turn 4 Rod? Stewart spun and was hit by Mike Wallace. As everyone was scrambling to avoid the spinning cars I was pretty sure that Gary Flammang was able to stop in time by just a whisker. Gary would eventually make a pair of visits to pit road to attend to a reported sticking throttle. From where I was sitting I could only see the fact that the Hood came off on stop one and was back on after stop 2.

Thanks Gary for the info on the pit stop action. Also making a stop on pit road was Dirk Kruiswyk to remove a loose rear bumper. Bill Eddy would be black flagged for smoking and he would pull into the pits with a blown transmission.

On Lap 18 we had another yellow in Turn 4 when Steve McElroy spun and collected Terry Armstrong. Steve would continue but Terry would go back to the pits. When the Checkered Flag fell it went to Darrin? Woodward. He was followed by Jimmy Allen Jr, Eric Lund, Kevin Carver, Chad Smith, and Robert Mears.

Due to several incidents in other Divisions the A-Main would be postponed to Sunday. The PA announcer made it appear that the race would be run at approximately 1PM so that is what I expected to see the next day. Well, to make a long story short, what I thought was correct was wrong and they evidently ran the A-Main at 10:30am Sunday morning so the only info I have is that the race was won by Sam Boyce.

I also have been told that some of the drivers that were supposed to have been in the A-Main were also not told of the change of time. Needless to say some of the drivers and quite a few fans were not happy when informed of the decision to run the race early Sunday.

There you have the Race Review for Saturday September 24th from Wenatchee Valley Super Oval.
